When she first started gardening, Ms. Hao diligently asked for long-lost coal slag from a nearby restaurant, brought it back to a small dam, screened it, and mixed with soil and micro-organic fertilizer to make a growing medium for vegetables. Every day, she carried 12 barrels of coal slag to the terrace by herself, sometimes working until 11-12 o'clock at night.

"I just do it little by little like ants returning to the nest, as exercise. Buying a new pot is a waste of money, so I make use of the old styrofoam boxes, buckets, and pots… So far, looking back at the results, I feel very happy in my heart," shared Ms. Hao.

Ms. Hao has never had any experience in growing vegetables and plants before, so when she started, every day, Ms. Hao also groped her way into associations and groups growing vegetables to learn from everyone's experience. "I choose varieties that are easy to grow, suitable for climate and weather conditions, so I'm lucky to be successful in the first generation," she shared.

On the day off, Ms. Hao goes to collect cow manure to rot and then fertilize the plants. When she is too busy, she will water her rice with water.

Every evening, after taking care of her family, Hoa shines a light on the garden to catch worms. If vegetables have soot, aphids, you soak a solution of garlic, chili, and alcohol to spray.
